Live interview with That's Solent TV

Tuesday 23rd February 2016, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to be interviewed live on That's Solent TV by Ben Trepess! The news show was viewed by thousands of people, shown on Freeview channel 8 at 5:515pm.

This was my first time being interviewed on live TV, and as a lot of people probably would be - I was extremely nervous! All of the producers, journalists and film crew were extremely helpful with their wise words, reassuring me there was nothing to worry about.

Being interviewed on TV gave me the opportunity to speak about my year as Miss Basingstoke - what I have been up to and the charities I have been supporting; how I manage to fit Miss Basingstoke, Hampshire and England duties in to my already busy weeks; and my next charity event I am organising!

If you missed the interview, but would like to watch it, you can do so by clicking here.

I cannot thank Ben and the That's Solent TV team enough for having me on their show, and I look forward to returning and sharing my further journey with you all!

Crown Charity Challenge No. 2 - February

Hi everyone,

It is hard to believe that 40,800 older people in England and Wales died of the cold last winter. Over the last 60 years, this has amounted to a staggering 2.5 million avoidable deaths due to winter cold.
Age UK has lauched its campaign to bring warm homes to older people in the UK to help prevent winter deaths. Age UK is calling on the Government to reform its energy efficiency programmes to enable all older people to live in a warm home. Each winter, one older person dies every seven minutes from the cold weather. Many of these deaths could be prevented if everyone lived in warm homes.

The campaign will run during Cold Homes Week, from 1-5 February. In order to make a difference, we need as much support as possible.

You can find more information about the campaign here:
http://www.ageuk.org.uk/home-and-care/housing-choices/campaign-for-warm-homes/

What is the challenge?

1. Take a selfie holding a lit or LED candle. Post it on social media, preferably between 1-5 February. You can use the suggested text below:

Entering Miss England

September 2014, I entered the Miss England competition for the first time; I was unsure of what to expect, what would be involved, or even how much I would gain from it. Little did I know, it would open up a whole other world...

In March 2015, I competed in the Miss Hampshire regional heat final with many other girls, held at Alton House Hotel. There were a numerous amount of different categories we were judged on: Charity - who could raise the most amount of money, Talent - we had to record a short video of us performing our talent, Social Media - who could be most interactive and gain the most amount of likes on their photo, PR - who could gain the most amount of positive press, Popularity - text voting, Eco - gone are the days of bikini rounds; instead we had to create our own dress out of economic and recycled materials, and Interview - a separate interview with the judges alone, and also a public interview in front of judges, competitors and guests.

After winning Charity Queen and Talent Queen, I was over the moon to have placed first runner up Miss Hampshire, made it through to the semi final of Miss England, and was titled Miss Basingstoke 2015!

So why have I entered again?

For the last 10 months of my reign, I feel I have not only accomplished a lot, and grown myself as a person; I have been able to use my title to the best of its ability - raising thousands of pounds and awareness for many local charities such as: Beauty with a Purpose, Naomi House, Breathe with me Strawfie Challenge, Anna's Challenges, and many more!

Beyond that, I have made friendships that will last a lifetime, created the most amazing memories, and met such inspirational young ladies and gentlemen who have all become role models to younger children, and have aspirations to change the world for the better.

What's not to love?

My first year would not have been able to have been as successful as it was without the help and support of my amazing family, friends and sponsors: 'Deb's Beauty salon'- my sponsor of Miss Hampshire, 'Absolute Entertainment' my sponsor at Miss England semi final and charity events, 'Bouce 4 Fun' for providing a bouncy castle at one of my charity events.

Thank you for your support!

Charity Crown Challenge no.4

For the month of June, our Charity Crown challenge set by Miss England 2014 - Carina Tyrrell, was to support Age UK in their Big Chinwag event. This could be by hosting our own big chinwag event, or to create our own big chinface selfie.
Here is my #Bigchinwag for Age UK.
Age UK is the country's largest charity dedicated to helping everyone make the most of later life.

We all enjoy getting together for a good chat - and older people are no different. But sadly loneliness is a huge issue and more than a million older people in the UK go for a month or more without seeing or speaking to anyone. Research reveals that over a third consider the TV as their main form of company.

You can help raise awareness of the Big Chinwag by creating your very own chinface: http://www.ageuk.org.uk/bigchinwag/chinmaker/

Charity Crown Challenge no.3

During the month of May, the Miss England Crown Charity Challenge was to host a "Tea with Teddy" party, supporting a great charity - Young People of the Year (YOPEY).

YOPEY is an important charity that gives young people a fairer image in the media - and society as a whole - by 'revealing, recognising and rewarding' young unsung heroes and setting them up as positive role models for other young people to copy. YOPEY rewards these role models by giving them finances, which they use to help their community. YOPEY Also provides training on being a good citizen.

For this charity challenge, I utilised the weekly girls night that myself and my best friends have to its full advantage! We had a onesie and tea with teddy party!
For this, we all bought with us our most loved teddies, drank tea, I baked us some healthy blueberry protein muffins, and we discussed YOPEY!

Yummy...

I think we'll be having more tea with teddy parties! And even better, it was for such a great cause.
